Do RimSavers Or RimBlades Stay On?

Oftentimes, our potential customers wonder if RimSavers or RimBlades will stay on their wheels after installation.

We’re happy to report that, yes, RimSavers and RimBlades are designed to stay on the wheel if installed correctly. Even if you accidentally scrape your wheel against the curb, your wheel protector will stay put (while protecting your wheel from the curb – more about that here). It’s a permanent application (but, don’t worry, there’s a way to remove it if you want).

High-Quality Adhesive

A big reason RimSavers and RimBlades stay on is because they come with high-quality adhesive and two pre-installation products.

Both wheel protector types come with cleaning wipes and 3M Adhesive Promoter primer to clean and prime your wheel before adhering the wheel protector to it.

Both RimBlades and RimSavers are backed with 3M Very High Bond Tape. This provides the best bond available, and it works in conjunction with the 3M Adhesion Promoter that has been applied prior to adding the wheel protector.

These 3M products work effectively with the lightweight proprietary material we use to make our wheel protection products and create an almost unbreakable bond.

How To Prevent Your RimSavers Or RimBlades From Falling Off

Cleaning tires for rimblades

As great as the adhesive is, it’s only effective when applied properly. For great results, here’s how to apply the adhesive with your RimBlades or RimSavers:

1. Thoroughly clean the wheels with dish soap and water. If your wheels are covered in dirt and/or brake dust, use a wheel cleaner.

2. Be sure to remove all of the tire shine from the wheel surface. Tire shine is kryptonite for adhesive, as it causes a chemical breakdown. Rubbing alcohol and shop towels work best to remove tire shine.

3. Carefully follow the directions to apply the adhesive and wheel protectors correctly. Some people put it on incorrectly, sometimes even upside down, and it affects the adhesive’s ability to keep the wheel protector on your wheel. Here’s a video tutorial for installing a set of RimSavers.

4. Wait 1 week to wash or add tire shine. No burnouts for 24 hours.
